Fostering not only allows us to provide life-saving benefits to more animals in our community, it also provides a safer, cleaner, and less stressful environment for our cats and dogs to thrive in before finding their forever home and getting adopted. They learn how to behave in a home, and go into an adoption situation better suited for success, thus lowering returns and rehoming due to behavioral problems.
Usually the animals most in need of fostering are posted on our social media. If you’d be interested in fostering please submit an application, send us an email at “[email protected]” or give us a call at (479)738-1505. Foster Handbooks and Applications are available at the the bottom of this page.
We provide all supplies and medical care while you are fostering, you provide daily care and love.
Top Tips for Foster Parents
- Check in regularly with Paws and Claws staff. Facebook or Instagram messages are an easy way to get a hold of staff- even after hours.
- Ask for advice if your foster pet has stopped eating.
- Kittens can crash fast, so alert your coordinator early if you see behavior changes.
- If your foster pet seems sick, check immediately for hydration – the pet should be drinking water, urinating, have elastic skin tone and a moist mouth.
- Please ask for any supplies or help you might need.
- Wash your hands and change your shirt after handling sick animals to prevent spread of illness.
- Never let your foster pet run loose outside; guard against escapes.
- Do not leave your foster pet unattended with any resident animals. In some cases the foster pet may need its own space and not be introduced to resident animals.
- Feed your foster pet separately from other pets in your home.
- Read the Handbooks and speak with staff for more information about fostering.
